Nursery Rhymes and singing are a big part of our foundation stage experience. We believe that hearing rhyme and listening to the patterns and sounds in rhymes and songs are key to children's enjoyment of literacy activities, social communication, learning language and for lifting our spirits and coming together as a community.
We take every opportunity for a good sing song, whether it is lining up for lunch or at the end of the day, putting our shoes and coats on to go out to play or when tidying the classroom. We have been known to burst into song at any given moment and love it when the children and visitors to the school join in with us. We also have a more structured daily rhyme time session in the mornings. A child is chosen each day to choose some rhymes from the 'Rhyme Time' box and the whole class join in with singing and actions and we ensure that every child gets a turn. We also 'mix' some of these rhymes up singing new words to our old favourites.
Below are some of our children's favourite rhymes. Why not ask them to join in singing some of them with you? This could become part of your daily routine together as you get dressed in the morning or make breakfast, lunch or dinner.
