Year One - Moving Christmas Cards
Step 1 - Research
The children looked carefully at moving books and cards to discover how they worked.
Step 2 - Trial and Error
The children were taken through step by step how to make a simple moving picture. They followed the instructions given by their teacher and were very proud of the results. This informed their plans during the design process.
Step 3 - Design
Each child inspected the equipment available to them. They then designed their own moving Christmas card, but knew that they could only use these resources.
Step 4 - Make
The children had a great time getting creative and making lots of mess! They tried really hard to be as independent as possible and helped each other before relying on the support of the adults.
Step 5 - Evaluate
The children held a whole class circle time and shared their final product with the class. They also spoke about their favourite part of their card and some children started to explain why it was their favourite part.
Year Two - Moving Sleigh
Step 1 - Research
The first Monday in December is a key date on the calendar for the families of Anlaby and the surrounding villages as Santa visits in his sleigh and the children donate their pennies to a local charity. Many of the children attended the event and, beforehand where given the question 'How does Santa's sleigh move on land' by their class teacher. In school, the children looked at a large wooden mock up, made by the school caretaker to allow the children a close up view of wheels and axels in action.
