To complete out DT Bread topic, we designed and made our own savoury bread rolls that had to look good, smell appetising and taste delicious. There were some amazing designs!
Year 5 had an activity afternoon that put their problem solving skills and team work to the test. Great fun was had by all!
Art - Water, water everywhere. Year 5 have been learning to use watercolours. They used tonal effects, colour mixing and different sized brushes to capture different moods of the sea. They learnt to use flat and graded washes as a background then painted in layers.
We investigated how yeast worked by putting warm water, yeast and sugar in a bottle. The gas that was produced blew up the balloon.
Once the dough had been shaped and left to prove, it was baked. Then we could eat the delicious warm rolls.
We had to knead for 5 minutes until the dough was soft and elastic.

Today we learned how to make bread. First we had to measure the ingredients out and then combine them to make a dough.
Today we have been evaluating different breads for appearance, aroma, taste and texture.
Year 5 visited Morrisons to learn about how they make bread.
They looked at all the different types of bread that can be bought and found the ingredients to make it.
In Science Year 5 have been learning about how we know that the Earth is a sphere. They observed which part of a boat travelling over the horizon disappears first.
Year 5 have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes. We looked at what happened when we added bicarbonate of soda to vinegar.
